OUR LOVE STORY

At Tegalalang Rice Terraces in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia, 2014

"I have to take credit of finding your prince in Prince's!"

That's what the director said in one of our drunken conversations during Chinese New Year celebration over cans of beer.

On J's first day of work, we were introduced by one of our HR executives. I gave him a firm handshake and even made a small talk that I thought he was Malay and not Filipino. He told his then immediate superior that he is having a crush on somebody in the office. Little did J know that his superior is one of my housemates, so he surprisingly told him that his crush was me! Since then, I would always catch him, looking at me, or looking for me.

Naive of what was happening, my other housemates were already planning to keep me and J close together. They invited him over to our house, and he gladly agrees, bringing with him food and cans of beer. There were even days that he would come over and cook for everybody! So just imagine the delight of my housemates whenever J comes over to our house.

I've never had a dull moment sharing conversations with J. We would always be left at the balcony just merely talking, and laughing, and sharing hot cups of coffee till the wee hours. Until one night, before he left the house, he told me there's a good place that he wanted to bring me. He asked for my number, and he asked me out for the first time.

We started talking and texting incessantly, until one day I got hurt and angry, and never talked to him. I tried to stay away, but being a colleague, and working together at a project, it was merely difficult.

But maybe, maybe, I was too charming and irresistible that he still pursued me, did everything with all his might, and I forgave him after a week, and we finally gave each other a chance.

After a month of courting, of turning up at the front door at 7:00am to pick me up for work everyday, of sending me home everyday, of surprising me with McDonald's breakfast at my office table, of taking me to nice places, of letting me eat at good restaurants, of picking up wild flowers from the nursery to give me, of leaving small notes on my office table, I finally agreed to be his girlfriend, the morning he asked on the 1st of December 2013, with my mom's approval.

Till date, he still surprises me with my favourite cupcakes, cooks food whenever I am sick, makes me laugh until my stomach aches, makes me cry with tears of joy, endlessly annoys me at my mood swings, give gifts even when there's no occasion, celebrates our monthsaries even in the littlest of ways.

We have traveled so many places together which includes -- Phuket in Thailand, Johor Bahru and Penang in Malaysia, Bali in Indonesia, Hong Kong and Macau, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and San Francisco, in California, and Arizona in the United States of America.

The grandest travel yet was our trip to the west coast of the United States, where in I got engaged at a beautiful restaurant situated on top of a hill, overlooking the amazing view of San Fernando Valley, with his family on my birthday.

At this time of writing, we are planning to get married in 2016, while we also plan to travel to Japan, New Zealand and China at the same year as well.

We don't know yet where we plan to settle down. But we agreed that as long as we are together, I don't mind where will it be.

He said, he wants to have four babies. So we'll see.
